Creating a new identity may seem like the ideal way to end the relentless stalking, abuse and harassment often faced by victims of sexual assault, domestic violence and dating violence. However, it is important to consider all of the options and understand the challenges posed by adopting a new identity.

The Women of Color Network (WOCN) has received funding from the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) to conduct a Leadership and Mentor Training Institute this summer. The Institute will be held on August 6 – 8, 2008, in New Orleans, LA. Registration is available to OVW Grantees and Community-based Advocates who are not OVW funded. of Non-Intimate Partner Sexual Assault
Sponsored by the Victim Rights Law Center, this teleconference will feature Chic Dabby of the Asian & Pacific Islander Institute on Domestic Violence. She will present on issues affecting Asian refugee and immigrant victims of sexual violence.
As a result of this training, participants will be able to identify:
The demographic diversity of Asian, Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander populations;
Specific forms of sexual violence that women in the above ethnic communities experience or are vulnerable to;
Sexual violence experienced by immigrants and refugees from conflict and disaster zones;
Socio-cultural and system/institutional barriers to disclosure; and
How past attempts at seeking help influence future help-seeking behavior.
